Proofreading is the final checking of a text before printing or publishing to ensure it complies with the spelling, grammar and punctuation rules of a given language. It also involves the correction of mistakes which affect the aesthetic values of the publication that might have been introduced during the typesetting process. For example, different fonts, inconsistent indexing and reference systems, and any table and illustration numbers which are wrong are corrected at this stage.
Errors such as these not only make it difficult for the reader to understand the text in the way intended by the author, but they also indicate a lack of professionalism and respect for the recipient. Carelessly written and badly presented publications leave clients and partners with a poor impression of the author and publisher.
mLingua offers proofreading services for texts in any language from virtually any field. Proofreading services are provided in accordance with the European Standard for Translation Services EN 15038:2006 as the final stage of the process in PREMIUM® translations. We also proofread texts written in the target language supplied by clients. Errors are marked using standardised proofreading symbols on a printout, or using the track changes mode in an electronic version of the document.
